Hyperparathyroidism occurs when the parathyroid glands generate excess parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone enables proper calcium balance in the blood and tissues for the body to function properly.
In primary hyperparathyroidism, an enlarged parathyroid gland creates excess PTH resulting in high blood calcium levels, thereby resulting in myriad health issues such as osteoporosis, kidney stones, and cardiovascular disease. Rectification may require a combination of medications and surgical treatment. In secondary hyperparathyroidism, an underlying disease causes low blood calcium so the parathyroid generates excess PTH to compensate.
Dr. Nirav Parikh, MD will work with you to determine the best course of action for diagnosing, managing, and treating hyperparathyroidism.
Your treatment plan is designed for steady progress, with every phase promptly and appropriately implemented.
